DRCC started 20 years ago as a coalition of community organizations that came together to oversee the clean up of the Duwamish River after it had been designated as a Superfund Site (one of the nationโs most toxic and polluted sites, made so from centuries of industrial activity).
We initially came together to elevate the voices of those most impacted by the Duwamish River pollution, but over the course of 20 years, our mission has expanded โ because environmental justice is more than cleaning up. It is also health, equity, climate justice, building youth leadership, advocacy, stewardship, and so much more.
We are so proud of our work from the last 20 years โ but let us tell you, we are even more excited about what is to come.
Join us on Thursday, Nov. 18 for our 20th anniversary celebration: โ20 Years and Beyond: Healing, Protecting, Transforming.โ Itโs been a while since weโve thrown an event like this, so weโre doing this one up. Thereโs going to be so many good stories from our tribal elders, water and air protectors of the last 20 years, reflections from our young leaders, artistic and musical performances, and the unveiling of something really cool weโve been quietly working on for the better part of the last year. (We canโt wait to show you!)
